This online wildflower gallery displays a random selection of photographs each time the site is loaded. To search the collection, enter either a common name or scientific name into the query box at the top right hand side of the screen. Searches using a plant's scientific name will often produce better results. To quickly identify scientific names go to the National Gardening Association's online Plant Name Finder. Stanford researcher Susanne Riehemann's local wildflower photographs are available here. Click on any of the thumbnail images to view a larger photo. This European site provides online access to a large collection of photographs and botanical prints. Images are organized by family name, so unless you simply want to browse through the collection, you will need to know the family name of the plant you are looking for. The online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, can be used to quickly identify family names. Maintained by the University of Basel in Switzerland, this online database provides access to thousands of photographs of European wildflowers and other Old World plants. Some woodcuts are included in the collection. To search by common name enter all or part of the name into the "All fields" box at the top of the query form, then click on the "Submit" button below. A variety of advanced search options are also available. Sponsored by UC Berkeley's Digital Library Project, this site provides access to over 37,000 images of California wildflowers, trees, vines, and shrubs. Click on the linked letters at the top of the page to browse through the collection by common name or scientific name. If you are looking for a specific plant, you can enter all or part of the common name into the query form. A second query using the plant's scientific name will often pull up even more images of the plant you are looking for. Lovely photographs of Japanese ornamental plants, quirky English translations, and free flower photo e-cards are all available on this eclectic site. You can move through the photo galleries by clicking on the numbered links at the bottom of the page. Clicking on any of the thumbnails will take you to a larger image. To search the site, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Flowers Photo Gallery from Japan Top page" link. Once you reach the home page, scroll down to the Google query box to enter your search phrase. Sponsored by Oregon State University's Horticulture Department, this site provides access to a great collection of photographs of trees and other common ornamentals. To find a specific plant listing scroll down the list of common names, select a name, then click the blue image links that appear in parentheses. You can also use the find feature (Ctrl+F) to search for a specific plant. This commercial site, maintained by a West Coast wholesale nursery chain, provides access to images of ornamental trees, shrubs, and plants. Unfortunately, photos are not available for all plants listed. Once search results have been returned, small camera icons identify links to images. High quality images of Morning Glory blossoms, vines, and seedlings are available on this comprehensive site sponsored by Hosei University in Japan. Browse through the images by clicking on any of the links in the center column on the first page or go to an overview of the varieties described by clicking on the "Family Convolvulaceae" link near the top of the page. This site features Paul Barden's lovely photographs of heirloom and uncommon roses. Photos are displayed as medium-sized images only. To select a class of roses click on the links at the left side of the screen. You will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to view additional images of roses within a given class. Hundreds of high quality orchid photographs, organized by genus, are available here thanks to collectors Sue and John Erickson. If you are looking for a specific type of orchid, click on the "Orchids" link at the top right to view a list of all sub-albums. If you prefer to browse click on any image to view thumbnails within a sub-album. You can then click on thumbnails within a sub-album to see a larger image. Move through the gallery by clicking on the numbered links at the bottom of the page. Created by British passionflower enthusiast Myles Stewart Irvine, this site provides access to a great collection of photographs and artwork depicting passionflower vines. Organized alphabetically by scientific name, image links can be found at the lower left hand side of the screen. Additional views of the plant on display can be found by clicking on any of the blue links above the image. Maintained by Dave's Garden network, this site provides access to over 22,000 photographs of cultivated plants. New photographs are frequently added to the database by network members. You can search for specific plants using either common or scientific names. Scroll down to the middle of the page to enter your search term. To view larger images click on any of the thumbnails pulled up by your search. Part of the German "Botany for Pharmacists" project, this site provides access to approximately 3,700 images of plants from around the world. Unfortunately, image quality varies and the site is somewhat difficult to navigate. Links to images from a number of related plant databases are provided at the top of the page. The entire collection is organized by family name, so the easiest way to explore the site is to click on the family name links at the lower left side of the screen.
